Book I describes Loren's multifaceted family from all of the above backgrounds and finds them as homesteaders in Minnehaha County, 'Dakota' [Dakota Territory, South Dakota]. Book II is 'all Norwegian' and finds Mavis' families all homesteading in Lac qui Parle County in west central Minnesota, some having spent months or years in Goodhue County on the eastern border of the state before reaching their final Vesterheim. Book III provides descriptions and stories about Olson - Finstad ancestors and descendants of Mavis' families after beginning their lives in Hallingdal and Eidsvoll areas of Norway. Book IV provides descriptions and stories about Loren's Benson - Johnson Swedish ancestors and descendants after beginning their lives in Eldsberga and Halmstad areas in southwestern Sweden. Book V provides descriptions and stories about Hamre-Aker ancestors and descendants of Loren’s families after beginning their lives in Granvinfjord and Sorfjord areas of Hardanger, Norway. Book VI provides descriptions and stories about Amundson-Magnus ancestors and descendents of Loren's families after beginning their lives in hamlets surrounding Sorfjord in Hardanger, Norway.

All six books of this series contains the same core of material to set the stage for individual family presentations.
